Google: A better brother is a bigger brother

torsdag, maj 31st, 2007

How many sides to a circle? 2: Inside and outside.

GMail marks the sender of emails “me” instead of “you”. It’s
subtle, but having some background in processing semantics of the
natural language and psychology I spotted it right away as soon as I
logged in for the first time. It’s a way to erase the boundary between
the person […]

Great customer service - H&M

torsdag, maj 31st, 2007

Well: I’m (sort of) a libertarian and a capitalist. As such I believe in markets. However - the invisible hands sometimes needs a extra hand, or mouth, or at least a keybord. Information is crucial for the marketbased economy (Innohead says that google is Karma 2.0). Therefor I only think it fair to report […]

Slip velfærden løs -patetisk krigsdans

tirsdag, maj 29th, 2007

The four yorkshire men

tirsdag, maj 29th, 2007

I hadn’t seen this video for ages and ages. But everything (less and less so admittedly) can be found on youtube. Here it is; and remember you were lucky growing up

Mobilephones - recycle

mandag, maj 28th, 2007

For some reason many post have been about mobile phones and mVoIp. Also there was the mention of the Economist article highlighting the benign effects of cellphones on trade markets and -pricing in emerging markets. So I think it would be prudent to mention fonebak. Fonebak is a private for profit company that recycles […]

Truphone vs. Gizmo vs. Fring vs. SoonR (solutions for mVoIp)

mandag, maj 28th, 2007

When I get the time, I will test these 4 applications for my symbian phone (e61i). Pre-test wise my bias is this: Fring is kool because it taps in to Skype and does things that Skype says they can’t do them selves. On the other hand so far performance (sound quality) has been lacking. Maybe […]

Søren Pind - integritet to the bone

fredag, maj 25th, 2007

Fra http://www.soren-pind.dk/index.php
“Der er så ulækker og modbydelig en taktik, Ullum her bruger, at han fortjener en skamstøtte over sig i dansk avishistorie. En skændsel. Intet mindre.
Så hvad gør denne skamløshedens ypperstepræst på det, Ekstra Bladet rammende kalder pislingen – en meget betegnende betegnelse for Ullums papirprodukt, der ville fornærme enhver fisk, der blev pakket ind? […]

SoonR - is it any good?

fredag, maj 25th, 2007

So far I haven’t been satisfied with fring. I am not finished playing around with fring, but I have recently stumbled over SoonR (Ohhh - old men cathes up late…). It’s service is different from Fring, so it’s not an either or - rather they complement each other: Provided your computer is left on, SoonR […]

Mobile phones -> efficient markets = Everybody happy

fredag, maj 25th, 2007

A few weeks back the Economist’s “economic focus” zoomed in on a study called “The Digital Provide: Information (technology), market performance and welfare in the South Indian fisheries sector”, by Robert Jensen (To be published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, August 2007).
The study is about how the introduction of mobile phones can lead to […]

Intensity measure of sentiment, global analysis for business

fredag, maj 25th, 2007

Over at data mining, there is an interesting post about a company called OASYS, and the future launch of their “sentimatrix” tool. It’s interesting - so why don’t you go read it?
from the post:

“The most interesting paragraph in this text to me is (my emphasis):

OASYS, which was a finalist for the OTC Invention of the […]

Fun Runs

torsdag, maj 24th, 2007

This post at Fastcompany deals with an atractive and simple idea: To combine exercise with guided cultural tours. However - why only ‘real running tours’? Why not hook up a pair of 20″ screens to a traditional treadmill. It should then be very easy to - in the comfort of your very own gym - […]

Thyboe + Bertelsen = Årets TV

tirsdag, maj 22nd, 2007

tirsdag, maj 22nd, 2007

I have often debated the value of GPA with friends. Every student I have known will talk about which classes are easy and which that are hard. Some students choose which classes to take in accordance with this information.
For me it has always been a mystery why percentile placement in each class was not used […]

Fringed my phone - wait till I fring you

tirsdag, maj 22nd, 2007

just installed fring (www.fring.com) on my nokia e61i. Have never really had a need for skype etc. but now I’will use it big time from my cell, via the built in wi-fi.

UPDATE: I have now had two poor and disapointing ‘conversations’ with skype-out via fring. Fall outs and delays…. Why I dont know - what […]

Hakia

onsdag, maj 16th, 2007

The search engine hakia.com is interesting. For the privacy-paranoid there is the “No cookies treat” and for the rest of us; its algorithms are trying to search for “mening” instead of just instances. This could mean a better search result:
Better means enriched. For example, the word “kill” in the context of “passing a bill in […]

Preemptive warfare?

mandag, maj 14th, 2007

Wearing a helmet, increases chance of accidents. The study mentioned here asserts that fellow commuters, when overtaking, drive ca. 3 inches (~8cm) closer to cyclist wearing a helmet, than the do to cyclist not wearing a helmet. Being a woman will grant you two extra inches of maneuvre-room. (thx boing boing)
