Implicit association test: Open source vs. Microsoft

tirsdag, juli 31st, 2007

Is this the new meme? Readers of such books as and properly know about the ingenious implicit association test, which is very good (says most) at revealing cognitive bias’ - such as racism etc.
At projectimplicit the new test is putting your open source feelings to the test…

tirsdag, juli 31st, 2007

Another great TED talk, this time by the creator of The Sims:
In a friendly, high-speed presentation, Will Wright demos his newest game, Spore, which promises to dazzle users even more than his previous masterpieces. Here Wright encourages users to create not households, as in The Sims, or cities, as in SimCity, but the entire universe, […]

Mere idræt i skolerne?

fredag, juli 13th, 2007

Map of happiness

torsdag, juli 12th, 2007

From the Economist.com, comes this at a glance insight: Money does make happy: Rich countries are more happy then poor countries.
This view on happiness is of cause a bit naive and there are certainly many reasons why it does not apply on the individual level for intra-cluster correlations (i.e. it would be an ecological fallacy […]

Brian Mikkelsen ER Harry Potter

torsdag, juli 12th, 2007

fra politikens anmeldelse af “order of the phoenix”:
Ligesom Emma Watson (som Hermione) og Rupert Grint (sidekammeraten Ron) er Daniel Radcliffe som Harry selv bogstaveligt vokset med opgaven gennem alle fem film, nu en fattet ung mand og fordelagtigt umulig at forveksle med Danmarks kulturminister. (Min fremhævning)
Søren Vinterberg ER altså en knag
(English Summary: In the danish […]

jaiku/pownce (booooring); We feel fine though (exitiiing)

onsdag, juli 11th, 2007

I’ve been playing around with jaiku and pownce lately (discarded twitter from the start - got a pownce invite through jaiku). And I must admit that I really don’t get it (apparently lifehacker feels the same): While these applications might appeal to the attention seeking internet phalanx of pubescence – I fail to se why […]

Comparative view on U.S. presidents from 1945 to 2007 (approval ratings)

tirsdag, juli 10th, 2007

I found (via stumbleUpon) this comparative view on U.S. presidents since 1945  and up to the midterms in 2007. The article hardly has any text, so the readers can pretty much interpret themselves. Below a detailed look on Ronald Reagan’s approval ratings:

Btw: this is a good interview with Reagan from 1975 (Inside Ronald Reagan (who […]

freemind + wikipedia = WikiMindMap

tirsdag, juli 10th, 2007

Some clever folks have combined freemind with wikipedia. The result is quite interesting from a learning perspective. For this example I’ve looked up appreciative inquiry on the english wikipedia.

Still: The system needs more work - at least more branches - Ideally I want something more like this (from Maps of Science):

Pertainig to map of […]

The case for dancing in schools: Sir Ken Robinson @ TED 2006

mandag, juli 9th, 2007

Sir Ken is my new guru and thought leader. This 19 minutes presentation is a marvel of presentation technique, entertainment and a profoundly moving story.
The case is made that we are facing an degree inflation in our education system. That our education system has a too narrow focus on the brain (professors consider their bodys […]

CEO buys big house -> stock goes down

søndag, juli 8th, 2007

I just gotta copy and paste this from blog.pmarca:
Where are the shareholders’ mansions? CEOs’ home purchases, stock sales, and subsequent company performance by Crocker Liu of Arizona State and David Yermack of NYU.
We study real estate purchases by major company CEOs, compiling a database of the principal residences of nearly every top executive in the […]

Automatic social tagging of pictures and more = conteXt

lørdag, juli 7th, 2007

OK - this python application for mobile phones looks cool.  Context watcher claims to automatically identify separate social and geo contexts:
Every night, the remote location provider scans the location data per user and tries to identify new clusters. This is done based on a context vector (cellid, geolocation, timeofday, dayofweekm,…), taking into account the transitions between […]

Recommended photo sharing site?

lørdag, juli 7th, 2007

Now that I have hit flickr’s free acount limit of 200 photos, i’m considering a change. This useless site list some alternatives. From alexa it seems that Zoomr could be an alternative (zoomr=red; flickr=blue; imageshack=olive):

Other alternative could be 23hq (to small for alexa and google) or photobucket
Google trends hardly shows zoomr??? (dark blue = photbucket; […]

Inflation in Zimbabwe forecast: 1.5m%; down to earth example

lørdag, juli 7th, 2007

Over at the “this is zimbabwe blog” is found this post, which illustrates the realities of the Zimbabwean hyperinflation.
So one packet of viennas [ed: a local kind of sausage (intonaco)] today could have bought you 39,880 houses just twenty years ago! […] Yes, we can all have a giggle at the numbers while sitting comfortably […]

Ingenious: help a malawian with his education (the power of one [windmill generator])

fredag, juli 6th, 2007

I want to mention this boing boing post:
a Malawian teenager built a wind power system for his house. As others heard of his work, they and his family members chipped in to improve his system. He now provides lighting for his parents’ home, and battery charging for his neighbors. His blog (with pictures) is wonderful.” […]
