State of the egyptian blogsphere

juli 2nd, 2007

… Well according to Ahmad Sherif’s blog Egypt still has a long way to go. Democracy, freedom of speech etc. Quote:

The Egyptian Police is attempting to intimidate our fellow blogger Wael Abbas. Wael has provided us with precious recordings exposing the unlawful and disgusting ways of our local Police and Secret Services. These are certainly not the ways of a nation sitting at the United Nation’s Council for Human Rights, since May 17th, 2007.

Watch the transcripts on Ahmad’s blog (n.b. since I don’t speak arabic I can’t testify to the truthfulness. And even if I could speak arabic - the calls could easily have been forged. However - The egyptian governement has a long story of abusing human rights, and targeting bloggers. So i belive).
